PERFECT Triple Meet - Metro North at New Rochelle [Xtra: 011]
Rode the El Capitan from Chicago to Los Angeles and back in 1967 as a 12 year old. Dad took us on that trip as Mom had a fear of flying. It was the best trip of my life filled with wonderful memories (mainly the crew, passengers, train and scenery)!
Thank goodness for the AEM-7. It and the F40PH saves Amtrak when it really mattered.
Use venture cars
Wow very expensive
It was! All technology gets cheaper over time though. Now we get free WiFi on Amtrak!
Fantastic video!!! And thank you for sharing your little adventure with us. Also that view behind the locomotive was incredible.
Thank you so much. My pleasure :)
I grew up in a house about 50 feet from a Railroad yard. Daily we would hear passenger trains go by so fast. Also, really long freight trains would struggle along, engines roaring and loud horns blowing as t approached a railroad crossing. This happened at all times during the day and night. I loved watching them. My Dad and oldest uncle were labor workers on a private railroad company.
I did pay for the thrill of calling from the Rail Fone! I kept it to 3 minutes and could say I did it.
Ha! Same here! Called my grandmother and she didn’t believe it. We were promptly cut off by our parents before 3 minutes was up.
I grew up in this area and train watched from many locations shown. Always wondered what traveling this region by passenger train would be like. Thanks much for this video.
That's wonderful! I'm happy it maybe brought back some great memories for you.
And it was known for the New York Central J-3 streamline Dreyfus Hudson
Yes indeed! I have a clip of that engine in my next episode coming out next week!
I was not able to catch the trip on Monday, but I did chase it back to Solvay from Geneva! ruclips.net/video/Xdqjuuqk2Q4/видео.htmlsi=c1FW6ON9Epyy9SrX
Awesome video! I just added the link to the description :)
History teaches that what killed early rail development was the government - not the lack of real estate opportunities. The US government heavily subsidized other forms of travel, and less dense forms of development that directly hurt the rail+land model. No rail project will ever solely depends on ticket sales - look at the Japanese Rail example, MTR etc
This is all very true! And railroads were also very highly regulated compared to other forms of travel… especially as it related to pricing.
What's the UP car on the rear?
PPCX 800724 - Central Pacific "Promontory Point"
Nice vid. Beautiful area. Too bad it was gloomy!
I know... looks like they had amazing weather for the return trip on Saturday though!
You'll pardon my ignorance, but I've never heard of "Finger Lakes Railroad'. Can somebody enlighten me as to exactly where it is, the track mileage, etc? In advance...Thanks !!
They operate, conveniently, in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. Their main yard is in Geneva, NY. They operate trains nearly every day and travel between Syracuse, Geneva, Canandaigua, and Watkins Glen with lots of freight traffic.
My old stomping grounds.. I'm from Syracuse but I now live in the central coast of cal.
Thank you for sharing my video in the description with your followers!
You are so welcome!
Nice video! That must've been an amazing ride!
Thank you! There were so many unique experiences to be had. I’m very grateful for it!
thank you
Thanks for joining us in #BlueRidgeClub
I actually saw you go buy in Geneva Tuesday and today Saturday
Awesome! I only did the day trip on Tuesday. I’m not on the run today.
Thanks Mike!
Thank YOU for all that you do and for making this trip what it was. It was a pleasure meeting you.
Why is it called the Borealis?
It's a Latin word meaning "Northern". The route does go pretty far north.... That's my best guess. It might be a revived name from an old train. Maybe someone else on here will know!
Don't worry, I gotcha. This restaurant is in Des Plaines, Illinois
Seen thisndone many times with G scale trains... but with O gauge?! Thats impressive.
my autistic ass needs to go
13:24 When looking up "Lamberts Point" the results show a coal shipping port in Virginia... This appears to be Point Arguello just south of Lompoc-Surf station. Is that correct?
That should be correct. The Lamberts Point was an office car on the Norfolk Southern Railway.
@RailWeekly I see. It sounded like a place name along the coast. Thanks!
Now me, I'd hitch to the back of a super long freight train, hitched to the rearmost locomotive for power of course. Just take a super slow super long ride across the country.
Good idea!
@@RailWeekly Love me a slow cruise.
Theory: METX 181 in 2002 was blue/orange not lighting bolt paint scheme same as the F40PHMs but they were converted to f40phm-3 and also instead of Nippon Sharyo cab cars they has budd cb&q cab cars
Which year is better for Metra BNSF 2002 or 2024
That’s a tough one. They have pretty much all the same equipment now as then, with the exception of a few more different types of engines now. But all those from 2002 are still running.
Cog
Cog
I’d love to ride!
I highly recommend!
My great uncle Wayne worked for the Frisco out of kansas City back in the day of steam.
I bet he had some great stories!
@@RailWeekly he was there during the transition from steam to diesel.
Acela is profitable, maybe Surfliner as well? Aren't those the more relevant comps than just "Amtrak"?
They are profitable if you only consider operating costs of the trains and not the railroad as a whole. If you take into account the maintenance of the tracks and infrastructure as well, then the Northeast Corridor is absolutely not profitable.
This is a pretty good explanation of what I was saying…. cs.trains.com/trn/b/fred-frailey/archive/2011/05/13/is-the-northeast-corridor-really-profitable.aspx
The 1st Cog railway was in Cow Hampshire!
It was indeed! I have ridden that one as well but didn’t film it. I would love to go back!
That one still runs original coal-fired steam locomotives twice a day, although due to environmental concerns, the majority of trips use modern diesel-hydraulic locomotives since 2008.
You should do a video about the Big Boy 4014
I would love to! That’s a bit of an effort to film that for me. I live on the east coast. But I definitely want to see that engine run soon!!
Awesome!
Thanks!
Like your video man. I think that every transport company should be owned by then government essentially since it already gives tax dollars to those companies anyways for the most part. Privatizing passengers rail, from what I’ve seen, has not been successful thus far.
Thank you very much! And I agree. Other countries where rail transport is semi-privatized seems to be quite chaotic. It’s truly a public service and should be treated as such. Thank you for watching!
The genesis take care of the new borealis train
Gotta go with the most reliable!
Very nice filmography. With home theater surround sound, it's like standing trackside. Really enjoyed the variety. Once again, thanks for the time and effort to bring these locations and action to us!
Thank you very much! I’m glad you enjoyed!
Good work 👍
Thank you so much 😀
Outstanding video
Thank you so much 😀
Did you know that the very first ever train to run at night time left Cumberland,Maryland for Baltimore in 1848?
I did not know that! I would love to learn more.
Great compilation Mike
Thank you very much!
There is no railway culture in US because government's promoted Road and Airport's. System is built in a way discourages to bring new trains Private railways doesn't work in every country but Japan is an exception Train ticket rates are in between Road and Airport's price with minimum speed 200 kmph There is an marketing and aspirations to bring new trains and new routes but there is no ground reality to make it happen
I would love to learn more about Japanese railways. That is certainly a fascinating history there.
Your video inspired me to make the drive from Akron Ohio (near Cleveland) to Roundout. But is there a spot off the footbridge to film track-level scenes? Thanks!!
I wasn’t able to find anywhere that I felt I was “supposed” to be. Haha. But I see plenty of videos from track level at this spot. Let me know if you are able to find anything. I have been meaning to pay another visit to this spot!
My great-grandfather was an engineer, and ran the Buffalo - Cleveland segment! Great history!
How very cool! I bet he had some awesome stories.
The most famous train in the world is without a doubt the Orient Express. I might have settled for the Trans Siberian Express. I have never heard of that train...
“The Most Famous Train In The World” was an actual nickname for the train at the time it was running. It’s not a superlative I came up with. :-)
@@RailWeekly which kinda proves the point I made in that other comment... 😅
@@michaausleipzig Certainly not disagreeing with you! haha
Awesome catch!
I like that they're using all phase 7 P42S
Agreed! It was a nice way to kick off the new service.
@@RailWeekly yes
Song?
I don’t recall the name, but I use SoundStripe.com for all music on the channel. It should be on that site.
